Hello everyone! It’s almost Christmas (which means it isn’t Christmas, I know, I know) so before we clocked off to go and spend time with our loved ones, I thought it’d be nice to share a quick message of appreciation with you all.
Retrounite is a new site that is still very much in its “growth” phase, and we’re still figuring out a lot of things that we’d like to do with the site in the long term. Nonetheless, it’s enormously encouraging to see a dedicated core of readers who come back on a regular basis — and with that in mind I’d like to thank you all for your support since we kicked things off earlier this year.
Here on Retrounite, our aim is to become a helpful and entertaining resource for those who are interested in retro gaming. Given our area of expertise, the things we write about aren’t going to be “current” by their very nature — so as time has gone on, what I hope we’ve been creating for you all is a nice library of timeless, evergreen information that you can refer back to easily. Good games are truly timeless, after all, so whether you’re reading something we’ve written the day we’ve published it or six months later, our work should still have some value for you!
In the new year we may well be tweaking things a bit in order to better keep those all-important readers coming in. Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean resorting to clickbait or anything like that — but obviously in order to keep doing what we do here at Retrounite, we need to continue growing. And that might involve trying some new and exciting things!
You can help out with that, too! If you find something you enjoy on Retrounite, please do feel free to share it — even if it’s an article from a while back you happened to stumble across. Likewise, please be sure to follow our Twitter account if you don’t already — it’s the easiest way to stay up to date with what we’re up to, and a super-easy way to share our stuff and help us grow!
Retro gaming is an incredibly broad field with so much to talk about, so if there’s anything in particular you’d like to see us do more of here on Retrounite, we’d love to hear from you. Please do make good use of the comments section to chat with us, or reach out to us on social media if you have anything that you’d like to share with us. It’s always a delight to hear from someone who has fond memories of something we’ve written about — or people who have discovered new favourites for the first time thanks to our articles!
Likewise, I’d love to hear if there are any specific things you’d like us to cover — particularly in features such as How to Play, which I would like to become a valuable resource for people to refer to over the long term. People are bad at taking care of original game manuals, so providing some sort of helpful reference guide for those struggling — particularly with more obtuse games — is something I’m keen to do here.
In the new year, you can expect plenty of new articles on retro games — both classics and the lesser-known — along with continuing explorations of some of the most exciting new trends in retro, such as the ever-improving world of emulation handhelds and the sterling work the Evercade folks are doing in officially licensed game preservation. We may also look into broadening our horizons a bit with some video content beyond what I’m already doing on my own personal channel, too — watch this space!
It’s been a delight to work on Retrounite so far, and I’m looking forward to many more months of celebrating the wonderful world of retro with you all. A very sincere thank you to those of you who visit regularly, and I hope you continue to enjoy the site as time goes on!
